Rudy has been a very busy boy this month. Telling me when I have my highs and lows, but Rudy also did something else to help another person. That person was my sister. She has a disease called Hereditary Angioedema. This is an autoimmune disease basically of her blood. All of us have inhibitors labeled C1 through C9 and each inhibitor is responsible for a very important job. My sister is missing her C1 and C4 inhibitors which are in control of helping with swelling. Due to the lack of inhibitors to control swelling my sister gets swelling in her intestines sometimes. This causes a great amount of pain and she has to go to the hospital to get a special medicine called Berinert in order to replace the inhibitors and help the swelling go down. Well for some reason when my sister went to the hospital this time the medicine didn’t work and she was in pain at the hospital for six days. I got to visit her and when I did I brought Rudy because I thought maybe he might help her in some way like he helps me. He did help her! He got in bed with her and he gave her the first smile she had all week. Even when she was in pain Rudy knew what to do! He laid on the bed with her until she finally fell asleep. I’m glad that Rudy was able to help my sister and I know that he will continue to help her and me. Thanks to Rudy I can remember my sister sleeping peacefully while in the hospital as well as her smiling!
