Rudy: Saving AJ's Life!

On November 30, 2011 at 9:30PM Rudy alerted to a low. We tested AJ's blood he was at 92. AJ figuring Rudy was right and he was going low, ate A LOT of ice cream. AJ then went over to his mom and told her that he still was not feeling good. We tested his blood and he was at 72. AJ had just ate a whole tub of ice cream and his blood sugar went down more then before. Then he ate some more, went back over to his mom and said " mom I still don't feel good." We tested his blood again and he was at 64. At this point he ate some more and his blood sugar began to climb back up again, but I could not imagine what could have happened if Rudy wasn't there. AJ does not wake up to lows and does not feel them till he is in the low 70s to high 60s. His bed time is 9:45 so he would have gone to sleep and we wouldn't have known about the low. Just think about how low he would have gone if he didn't eat as much as he did. Probably past what a meter could have read and this could have caused him to go into a diabetic seizure or coma. This will only be one of the many times Rudy will save AJ's life, but it just goes to show how important he is to our family, and how amazing dogs can be.
